Gowdy Warns Clinton, She’s Got Two Weeks To Turn Over The Server Or Things Are Going To Get Messy
Gowdy, the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi issued a statement saying, “Though Secretary Clinton alone is responsible for causing this issue, she alone does not get to determine its outcome,” adding that her compliance with his request is “in the interest of transparency for the American people.”
In her public statement of March 10th Clinton attempted to bury the issue of server access by proclaiming that we could trust her to provide everything and that the server “will remain private.” She surely will do everything in her power to obstruct access to those files. It is clear that the only chance the people have of finding out what she’s been working so hard to hide is through a forensic analysis of the server. We really can’t trust Ms Clinton to do that properly.
In the continuing obstruction effort, a Clinton spokesman said Friday that when all of her work-related emails are released “it will offer an unprecedented opportunity for the American people to see for themselves that they are all there and then some.”
Certainly it will be unprecedented if there is anything of substance released, as virtually nothing of value or relevance to the investigation has yet made the arduous trip from her server to the committee’s inbox.
Clinton has until April 3rd to comply with the Gowdy request after which time it will be referred to House Speaker John Boehner for further action. Rep Gowdy notified Clinton attorney David Kendall by letter that if she refuses, “I will inform the speaker of the House of Representatives so that he can use the full powers of the House to take the necessary steps to protect the best interests of the American people.”
Naturally, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) the ranking Democrat on the Benghazi Committee dismissed the chairman’s efforts to get at the truth, saying his letter appeared “designed to spark a fight with a potential presidential candidate rather than follow the standard practice in congressional investigations.” Standard practice allows for government documents to be hidden away on secret email servers, Rep Cummings?
If Clinton were a black woman, Cummings would have also proclaimed Gowdy to be a racist by now, but she’s just too pasty white for that to stick. There’s also the “war on women” card to be played, but maybe he’s holding that one for later in the game.
Also joining in the Democrat obstructionism is a familiar player, the Department of Justice. They are also adopting the position that the emails on Clinton’s server are private and not subject to the Freedom of Information Act even though they are the people’s records, simply because they currently reside on Clintons private email server.
That’s like saying the money stolen in a robbery cannot be retrieved by the bank from which it was taken because it’s now located in the thief’s personal home safe. It’s an asinine argument, but there are plenty of complicit asses in the DOJ more than willing to make it. Justice in the Obama DOJ is synonymous with Democrat political advantage. They argued in a court filing on Thursday that the FOIA law “creates no obligation for an agency to search for and produce records that it does not possess and control.”
These are records the State Department should now possess and should have controlled. The person responsible for them not being controlled is the one who has them now. Either she was criminal in improperly relocating government documents or is criminally in possession of them now. She also may have feloniously destroyed documents and is likely in contempt.
To that issue, attorney Larry Klayman, who represents the conservative group Freedom Watch, asked the liberal U.S. Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit to hold both Clinton and her top aide Cheryl Mills in contempt for their failure to produce the requested documents. He is also asking the court to issue a subpoena for the seizure of the server and all of its records.
Rep Gowdy has given Clinton a deadline of March 27 to provide to his committee all documents related to Benghazi, including emails. We’ll soon learn just how far the devious Democrats are willing to go to obstruct justice. Whatever the State Department was up to in Benghazi, it must have been really dirty for the entire government to be involved in covering it up to this degree.
